Not sure where my post from BTS went about my personal assessment philosophy, but alas, I shall forge ahead.
1. An assessment practice I have used this year is offering students the opportunity to practice their language skills while also prepping for the PSAT next week. Students individually do their best, then discuss each question in an academic format in groups. Each group posts their group answers on the board. This allows me to see which groups were able to discover the correct answers and to which prompts and language errors students struggled. From there, I addressed the areas in which they struggled to help them understand the language issue at hand. I always enjoy their grammar discussions with each other and the academic language they begin using. From one practice round to another students grow in their understanding of the English language :)
2. An assessment practice that is an area of personal growth is I am working with Honors 10 ELA and determining how to break down AP Language and AP Literature style assessments for this group so that I am vertically aligning my students for success in the next couple years, not just this year, for their growth.
